This is a recap of a conversation I had with my 3 1/2 year old son, Wesley, at about 7:30 this morning.
He sat with me as I finished my bible reading and prayer, then we reviewed this week’s Fighter Verse:
“He who believes in the Son has eternal life; but he who does not obey the Son will not see life, but the wrath of God abides on him.” John 3:36
We talked about what that meant, and Wes had lots of questions:
“Is heaven near or far away?”
“What’s hell like?”
“Does God have a house?”
And so on …
Daddy: “Remember when we ready in your bible about King David? He wanted to build a house for God, then his son, Solomon built the temple.”
Wes: “Yeah!”
Daddy: “God is everywhere, and He lives inside of Daddy, and Mommy, and Uncle Jules & Stacey, and PMac & Georgie, and Steve…”
Wes: “And inside me!”
Daddy: “No, Wes. God doesn’t live inside you right now. You have a sinful heart.”
Up ’til now, this wasn’t much different than many other conversations we’ve had, except that this time Wesley was much more engaged and asking more questions. Then this:
Wes: “I don’t want to have a sinful heart!”
Daddy: “Then you need to pray and ask Jesus for a new heart.”
Wes: “Ok!”
“Jesus, I don’t want to disobey any more. Please give me a new heart and help me to obey you. Amen!”
Yes … there were some big hugs!
